Rachel Zoe in Velvet

The Met's Costume Institute celebrated the opening of American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity this week. Rachel Zoe showed up on the red carpet in an amazing yellow velvet Marc Jacobs gown.
We love this dress and it makes us so intrigued by the new trend of velvet! Here is a body skimming velvet dress from Urban Outfitters that would be the perfect little black dress with a twist.

Favorite Rachel Zoe motto/quote...

A Slice of Rachel Zoe's Hectic Life and Who's in it

Rachel Zoe has been known to choose/create paparazzi favorites out of her clients, which doubles as walking advertisement for her work. Zoe works with Hollywood celebrities, and high fashion tycoons. In her earlier years of working as a stylist for YM magazine, Zoe dressed starts such as Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Zoe now has an estimated 20 clients that pay her $13,000 a day to be dressed for big events, clients including Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Eva Mendez and Demi Moore. Zoe once reported that ,“For an entire year, Lindsay wanted to wear three different looks a night, We were changing in cars, in bathrooms. I would have to bring two assistants with me so we could exchange the clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry, because what am I going to do with the clothes when she takes them off? You can’t just leave diamonds in the car! But do you know how many designers she hooked up? When Lindsay would wear Chanel, it would sell out in four hours.” Never a dull moment in the life of a celebrity stylist is, that much has proven to be true for our Miss Rachel .

One event that sticks out in my mind is the Golden Globes of 2009. Rachel Zoe’s clients for that event included Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendez, Debra Messing, and Demi Moore. As she took on the five A-listed clients, she did what only Rachel Zoe would do. For Cameron She had chosen a pink haute couture Chanel dress for Cameron Diaz. Of course, with Rachel’s luck the dress was still in Paris days before she needed it, and on top of that, the dress had an “unwanted” sleeve that Zoe did not see as fitting. What kind of person tells Karl Lagerfeld that they want to cut the sleeves off HIS dress?!? Rachel Zoe that’s who. In the end it all came together and Cameron looked stunning as ever, and was thought to be the eye catcher of the event, but Eva stole the show. She wore a white Dior gown, and her neck was flooded with gorgeous turquoise stones. Simply Stunning. No need to be over the top when you’ve got a stunning dress, and a few statement jewelry pieces.

Pretty In Petals

Summer time is upon us and for us fashionistas that means time to break out the poppin summer colors. This summer, floral prints are IN! Because the weather is warmer during this time of year, silks and light cottons are good fabrics to choose for a tank, blouse, shorts, or skirt. Take Rachel Zoe’s advice and stand out. She loves bright colors, feminine shapes and fun patterns. It’s fun to flirt with the seasons.

As you accessories your new summer outfits, you should know that petal jewelry is hitting the fashion forward scene. Pair your new summery collections with a statement ring, ear rings, or necklace. But remember, it’s never a good idea to wear too much jewelry. It starts to look messy or tacky, very quickly. I always say, wear one statement accessory, such as a BiG ring, or BIG ear rings and leave the rest at home. Less is always more.

Juicy Couture and Betsy Johnson have some great pieces out right now with prices ranging from $35 to $88. If you’re looking for something a little less spendy check out Target, Forever 21, or Free People!

Remember Taylor?

If you are a fan of Rachel Zoe, you have been watching Bravo's The Rachel Zoe Project from the beginning.

Taylor Jacobson, Zoe's former assistant and resident uptight bitch, has a new project on her hands. She now is collaborating with Kasil Denim and has created a line of fabulous jeans that would go great in any wardrobe. It is called Kasil + Taylor Jacobson Denim Collection and here is our favorite pick.
Bravo, Taylor!

Short shorts.

Recently, our friend and fellow fashion major gave a talk about her quarter abroad at the American InterContinental University in London. In her blog, she comments on the different styles that she saw around Europe during her travels. One new trend that she saw all over was high waisted, super short shorts.

Well guess who else says these are an upcoming trend in the US? Rachel Zoe. She gave her pick for the perfect pair.

These Erin Wasson X RVCA super cute shorts sell for $300. But if you are a little tight on cash, check out these Urban Renewal Patchwork Shorts from Urban Outfitters for only $48.

Still out of your price range? Then just head to your local Goodwill or Value Village, pick out a pair of "mom" jeans, and cut away!
